A line chart emphasizes change across a continuous sequence, most often time. Axes, units, and series labels should make the chart interpretable without relying only on the line color.

When to use it

Use for comparing trends across time.

Know the difference

A line chart represents ordered change; a bar chart is often clearer for discrete category comparisons.
