Actions for the item or region the user invoked.

What it is
A context menu appears after a contextual gesture such as right-click or a long press. It should contain actions relevant to the targeted item, with a discoverable alternative for essential commands.
When to use it
Use for item-specific secondary actions.
Know the difference
A context menu is invoked on an object; a dropdown menu is opened from a visible menu button.
Across platforms
iOS · iPadOS · macOS · visionOS
Use the native platform presentation and terminology; adapt density and interaction to touch, pointer, remote, or spatial input rather than copying a phone-sized view.
Web · Android · Windows · Linux
On the web, manage keyboard focus and dismissal explicitly. Android and desktop implementations should use the equivalent native surface when available.
