What it is
A combobox lets people type while opening a related list of options. The entered text can filter the list, with the final accepted values determined by the field’s rules.
When to use it
Keep typed input and highlighted options synchronized and support keyboard selection.
Know the difference
A select normally limits choice to listed values without a separately editable text field.
Across platforms
Web
Native input and select controls use browser-provided picker UI; the exact presentation differs across browsers and devices.
iOS · iPadOS
Pickers can appear inline, as wheels, or inside a compact presentation. Choose a style that fits the amount of space and the value being selected.
Android
Use the Android or Material selector appropriate to the value. Calendar and time selection commonly have dedicated dialog presentations.
