Alert dialog.
An interrupting dialog requiring an immediate response.
See it in context
What it is
An alert dialog conveys important information that must be acknowledged or resolved before continuing. Reserve it for significant conditions and keep the consequences of each action clear.
When to use it
Use when an immediate decision is necessary.
Know the difference
An alert dialog interrupts for a response; a nonmodal alert message announces information without blocking the task.
Across platforms
iOS · iPadOS · macOS · visionOS
Use the native platform presentation and terminology; adapt density and interaction to touch, pointer, remote, or spatial input rather than copying a phone-sized view.
Web · Android · Windows · Linux
On the web, manage keyboard focus and dismissal explicitly. Android and desktop implementations should use the equivalent native surface when available.
